Resort de Betuwe is a small riverside holiday resort in Gelderland, in the Netherlands. There are six single-storey holiday cottages for 4 to 6 guests and eight motorhome pitches, each with its own toilet, shower and electricity. The park is at Zennewijnen near Tiel, around 50 km from Utrecht. Everything is self-catering.
The swimming pool, the restaurant and the barn are closed for building work, with no reopening date. The playgrounds and the football cage are open.
Six single-storey holiday cottages for 4 to 6 guests
Six cottage types, sleeping 4 to 6, with two or three bedrooms, a kitchen, and a garden with a terrace. Every one of them is on a single floor. No stairs to the door, none inside, and it is not a special unit you have to request.

Self-catering, not a hotel
This is a holiday park, not a hotel. There is no reception desk with a concierge, no room service and no breakfast included. What you get instead is a cottage of your own: your own kitchen, your own front door, your own garden and terrace, and nobody knocking to make up the room.
There is no restaurant on site either, and at the moment that is doubly true, because the horeca is closed for building work. Tiel is around 10 minutes away by car for eating out and for the weekly shop, and every cottage has a kitchen for the rest.
If you want a hotel in the Netherlands, this is not it, and we would rather say so on the first screen than have you find out at check-in.

A small, quiet park by the river
Six cottage types and eight pitches. That is the whole park. There is no entertainment team, no programme, no water slides and no amusement park, and if you have just come from comparing the big Dutch holiday parks, that is the difference in one line.
What there is instead: the dyke, which starts around 200 metres behind the park, the water meadows behind it, and the Waal about 600 metres away on foot. The Waal is the busiest navigated river in the Netherlands, so there are barges going past all day, and watching them turns out to be most of the entertainment people came for. The speed limit on the park is 5 km/h.
For some visitors that is not enough going on. We would rather you knew that before you booked than after. The park rules are all on one page.
Where we are, and how far from Utrecht and Amsterdam
The park is at Hermoesestraat 13, Zennewijnen, in the Betuwe, the fruit-growing belt of Gelderland. Tiel, the nearest town, is around 10 minutes by car. Utrecht is roughly 50 km and Amsterdam is roughly 85 km, so both work as a day out with the car, and neither is close enough to call this a city base. Schiphol is roughly an hour's drive.

Eight motorhome and campervan pitches with private facilities
Each of the eight pitches has its own toilet, its own shower and its own electricity hookup. No shared facilities block, no queue, no coins. That is unusual almost anywhere, and it is the single most distinctive thing the park has.

Getting here from the UK
Almost every British guest arrives by car, either on a ferry to the Netherlands or Belgium, or through the Eurotunnel and up through France and Belgium. Once you are on the motorway network the park is straightforward to find, and having the car with you matters here, because the area is rural and the good parts of it are spread out.
Bring your driving documents and check your breakdown cover before you set off. On the park itself the speed limit is 5 km/h.
What is open, and what is not
Open: the playgrounds and the football cage. Temporarily closed for building work: the swimming pool, the restaurant and the barn. There is no reopening date.

Families, dogs and step-free stays
Families. Two of the six cottage types sleep six across three bedrooms, the playgrounds and football cage are open, and the 5 km/h limit means children can be outside without you watching the road. See family holiday park in Holland.
Dogs. A dog is possible on request, and not in every cottage: four of the six types state that pets are welcome on request, while the Lodge and the Villa Riant do not take pets. Ask before you book. What actually matters to a dog is here anyway, in the dyke and the water meadows.
Step-free. All six types are on one floor, which suits guests with a walking frame, anyone who has had enough of stairs, and anyone travelling with a buggy. We say step-free rather than accessible, because door widths and bathroom layouts have not been measured against a standard. If you use a wheelchair, ring us and we will describe the actual doorway.
